Lamar Odom Opens Up About His Addiction Issues
Lamar Odom has to put in the effort every single day to stay sober.
“When you’re an addict, that’s something that you live with forever,” he told TMZ when the site caught him at LAX Airport Thursday. “You don’t just put that behind you. It takes years … everybody gets the urge, but getting high is not in my agenda right now.”
In 2015, Odom was found unconscious at a Nevada brothel following an overdose, which left him in a coma. A year later, he checked into rehab to deal with drug addiction issues.
This summer, the former Los Angeles Lakers star is planning a comeback on the basketball court as a player in the Big3, a professional three-on-three basketball league.
“It’s a hard fight back, but I’m from South Jamaica, Queens, so I’m into a fight — just like I was fighting for my life,” he said, adding that he’d like a Best Comeback Athlete ESPY Award nomination.
Odom may face a few challenges on the court, though, as a result of the 12 strokes and six heart attacks he suffered while in a coma, because his memory is “not fully back.” He reiterated, “All my doctors say I’m a walking miracle.”
